 Wild Horse & Burro Statistics

The BLM maintains and manages statistical databases regarding the Wild Horse and Burro program. Herd Area (HA) and Herd Management Area (HMA) acreages were calculated using GIS. The BLM policy is to establish Appropriate Management Levels (AML) - the ecological balance among wild horses and burros and the BLM's multiple use mission - as a range with upper and lower levels, the numbers displayed represents the upper limit. Removal, population, and adoption numbers are monitored, tracked and reported annually. The following reports contain those statistics.
